KennethCole @Egypt…Brilliant. Bravo!!!

Everyone is popping a vein over Kenneth Cole recent tweet about Egypt.

OK! so it may appear to be super tasteless.  BUT really it is sooo brilliant when you think about it.

Those of us who have been glued to the online media watching the revolution unfold in Egypt, can’t  imagine the existence of people that don’t know Egypt past King Tut and his golden necklace. Yet Kenneth Cole, with his brilliant move, has put Egypt on the radar of ….say Paris Hilton and Michael Kors. (I love him and his shoes, and I hate her and her stupidity).

Kenneth Cole has so tastelessly made fun of people fighting and dying for their freedom  to promote his Spring collection. Wow! That sounded really bad.  BUT really it could be great.

While promoting his Spring Collection,  Kenneth Cole  has promoted the revolution in Egypt.

Hell! rumor has it that Kenneth Cole along with other rich, brilliant and philanthropist businessmen and businesswomen will send medical supply, food and create new jobs for all the tortured people in Egypt…

Yay Kenneth Cole!!!!…and the new spring collection.

Interesting take, Rasha. The rumor of his resulting philanthropy is wonderful. I wonder if it’s part of his making amends for the Tweet or if he was doing it anyway. Guess it doesn’t really matter — it’s a Good Thing.

I remember after 9/11 people were walking on eggshells, afraid to say anything that could be construed of making light of the situation. Then “The Onion” came out with the headline “God Reiterates First Commandment”, going on to write “What part of Do Not Kill did you not understand?” It was such a relief, just to be able to laugh.

There was a little of that with Kenneth Cole’s Tweet, too. My reaction was less outrage and more eye-rolling, but I did chuckle. It may have simply been a chuckle at what seemed like a boneheaded move, but it was a chuckle nonetheless. And then Conan came out with his brilliant quote — “If they want people to go home and do nothing, why don’t they turn the Internet back on?” Brilliant.

We need an occasional breather. We’re all glued to the news, trying to imagine what it must be like for the people of Egypt (we can’t, but we can try), hoping for the best. A brief laugh does us all good.

Thanks for a different perspective :)
